Thursday Night Lights
The Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl was once again part of Thursday Night Lights each week during the 2015 high school football season. This year we added another component to Thursday Night Lights by visiting each school during the week of their game to talk to them about making good choices, listening to their coaches, and other life lessons.
Committee members Joe Micatrotto, Jim Livengood, Steve Stallworth and Tony Bonnici all took part in speaking to these schools and sharing just how important football is to this community.
During the fall season, come stop by our tent at Thursday Night Lights each week to watch a classic football movie, play cornhole, and enjoy high school football!
Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Youth Football Clinic presented by Terrible Herbst
More than 600 local youth attended the Seventh Annual Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Kids Clinic presented by Terrible Herbst and Raising Cane's at the University's Rebel Park on July 31.
With new UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez and staff and players hosting the event on a sunny Southern Nevada Friday, participants were treated a free day of football and fun.
Boys and girls aged 6-14 went through multiple stations on Ernie Becker Sr. Football Fields as well as inside the Lied Athletic Complex where they enjoyed a presentation by longtime bowl committee member Kerry McGonigal, who played quarterback at the University of California.
The day also included a free commemorative T-shirt and complimentary lunch from Raising Canes.
“Our summer clinic is always a fun and educational event for kids in Las Vegas and we had another record turnout today,” said Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Executive Director John Saccenti. “Terrible Herbst and Raising Canes make this possible with their generous support and we are thrilled that Coach Sanchez and his impressive staff at UNLV agreed to continue hosting what is a great tradition and a memorable day for everyone involved.”
The 2015 Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl will be played Saturday, Dec. 19, at 12:30 p.m. PT at Sam Boyd Stadium. The 24th Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl will be televised nationally on ABC, featuring the top choice from the Mountain West or BYU against the sixth pick from the Pac-12 Conference.
Tickets, which are on sale now, are priced at $25, $35, $45, $65, $75 and $110, depending on location, but will increase by $10 each on December 1. Visit www.lvbowl.com to purchase your tickets.
Goodie Two Shoes Foundation & Opportunity Village
Every year at the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, players from both teams get a great opportunity to give back to the community. With the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, the players assist over 400 children with picking out new athletic shoes. CP Squires Elementary is one of the lowest income schools in the Las Vegas area and this event provides the opportunity of many of these children to pick out new shoes for the very first time.
Opportunity village is a non-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities. They are dedicated to helping members of the community with intellectual disabilities become the best they can be through vocational training, community employment, day services, and the opportunity to unleash their creative passions. This is always a highlight for the teams that come to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl as it continues to be a strong tradition during bowl week.
