Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Announces Extension with Mountain West

Updated Logo Also Released

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 17, 2013) - ESPN Regional Television (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN, and the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl have announced a six-year extension with the Mountain West Conference to keep the league competing in the game through at least 2019.

The Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl will have the No. 1 selection from the Mountain West to face a team from the Pac-12 Conference, which this summer announced its own six-year extension with the game. The bowl will stage its 22nd edition this December during the last year of the current contracts.

“We are thrilled to announce an extension with the Mountain West that will continue pairing the league with the Pac-12,” said Dan Hanneke, Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Executive Director. "We’ve featured this matchup since 2001 and it’s no coincidence that our event has only grown bigger and better in those dozen years.”

The 2013 Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, which also released an updated logo Thursday, will feature a Pac-12 team against the top selection from the Mountain West, will be played Saturday, Dec. 21, at 12:30 p.m. PT (3:30 p.m. ET) at Sam Boyd Stadium and televised nationally on ABC.

“The Las Vegas Bowl has been part of the fabric of the Mountain West since the Conference was established in 1999,” said Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson.  “We are very pleased to extend this important relationship and look forward to a new six-year cycle of exciting match-ups and top-notch bowl experiences for our member institutions.”

Last year's edition - which attracted 33,217 fans to Sam Boyd Stadium - earned the third highest TV rating in the game’s history as No. 15 Boise State defeated first-time visitor Washington 28-26. It marked the eighth consecutive year that the game attracted a crowd of more than 32,000.

Tickets for this year's Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl are on sale now and remain at the same levels ($25, $35, $55, $100) as last year until Sunday, Dec. 1, when prices will increase by $10 each. Call (702) 732-3912 to purchase or for more information.
