Ticket Kickoff Luncheon Starts Countdown To Bowl
Successful annual gathering made
even more memorable by guest speakers
LAS VEGAS - More than 120 people gathered for the 2012 MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Ticket Kickoff Luncheon on Sept. 27 at Texas de Brazil restaurant.
Attendees were not only treated to a spectacular lunch, but also a series of speakers to help ramp up the excitement for the 2012 game, which will be played December 22 at 12:30 p.m. PT at Sam Boyd Stadium.
The event was hosted by national Fox Sports Radio personality J.T. The Brick, who first introduced MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Executive Committee President Rob Dondero.
''We're really excited about what we've accomplished in 20 years and we are proud to now be the 16th-oldest bowl out there,'' Dondero said. ''The 21st edition also looks to be a great one as the Mountain West added some new teams that are playing really well and from the Pac-12 Conference, four schools are currently in the national rankings.''
Next up to the lectern was Football Bowl Association Executive Director Wright Waters.
''We've never been stronger in intercollegiate football, especially the bowl system,'' Waters said. ''We continue to see the public support the bowls.''
The keynote speaker was Vince Papale, the inspiration for the film ''Invincible.'' Papale tried out for his hometown Eagles and spent three years with the NFL team. He was played by actor Mark Wahlberg in the 2006 film.
