Schools to Receive Combined Team Payout of $281.8 Million for 2011-12 Bowl Season

A projected $281.8 million will be distributed among 120 Football Bowl Subdivision universities and to several Football Championship Subdivision universities following this season's bowl games, the FBA announced today. These funds can be used for many purposes including: building new athletic facilities, renovating old ones, paying for team travel, or even supporting general scholarship funds. This season's payouts will benefit football programs as well as other non-revenue generating sports such as women's soccer and men's baseball. The funds are distributed to the conferences which then distribute the money to their member schools.

"Our 35 bowls will be very happy to give $281.8 million to institutions of higher learning across the country," said Tina Kunzer-Murphy, Chairman of the Football Bowl Association. "In addition to the prestige of playing in a bowl, the boost bowls provide for recruitment, and the number of applicants a school receives, student-athletes and universities benefit immensely from these payouts."
